A lifetime in wine. Rooted in Sicily.
Montecarrubo was founded in 2005 by Peter Vinding-Diers and his wife Susanne, after a lifetime spent working across some of the world’s most compelling wine regions. In south-eastern Sicily, on the remains of an ancient volcano overlooking the Ionian Sea, Peter found a place where experience and terroir could come together in a deeply personal way.
From the beginning, the estate has been guided by a clear philosophy: to understand the land, work with it patiently, and allow each vineyard to express its own identity. Organic farming, biodiversity, massal selections, indigenous yeasts and restrained cellar work all serve the same purpose — to create wines of precision, depth and unmistakable sense of place.

Our wines
From volcanic ridges to historic Sicilian vineyards, every bottle carries its own expression of the island. Produced in limited quantities, each cuvée is conceived to preserve the character of its vineyard and the identity of the variety from which it is made.
Single-vineyard Syrah, Grillo and carefully composed blends are vinified with indigenous yeasts and a restrained hand, with used French oak chosen to accompany rather than define the wine. The aim is always the same: purity, freshness, depth and a precise sense of origin.

Peter Vinding-Diers has spent more than fifty years working across some of the world’s most compelling wine regions, from Bordeaux and South Africa to Hungary, Spain and South America. His career has been shaped by curiosity, experimentation and a deep understanding of terroir.
At Montecarrubo, that experience has become something more personal: a family legacy in the making. Today, Peter works alongside his son Anders, who is increasingly part of the estate’s future and will carry Montecarrubo forward into its next chapter.
What passes from one generation to the next is more than knowledge. It is a way of looking at wine — with patience, precision and the conviction that every great bottle begins with understanding the land.
The Estate
Where Mount Etna meets the Ionian Sea.
Set in eastern Sicily, between Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea, Montecarrubo stands on land shaped by volcanic and marine origins. Its soils form a remarkable mosaic of calcareous material, volcanic deposits and ancient marine fossils, creating subtle differences from one part of the estate to another.
The vineyard is divided into three distinct sites — Quattro Venti, Vigna Grande and Vignolo — each with its own soil composition and aromatic identity. Every year, the grapes from each vineyard are harvested and vinified separately, allowing the character of each site to remain clearly expressed in the wine.
Across the estate, vines grow alongside olive trees, wild herbs and lavender, within a certified organic landscape cultivated according to principles inspired by biodynamic farming.
